At least five Naxalites were killed and several others injured in an encounter with security forces in Abujhmarh area of Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, on Friday, Additional Director General of Police, Chhattisgarh, Vivekanand Sinha informed.
During the encounter, three security force personnel were also injured. They are said to be out of danger.
Security forces recovered ammunitions and weapons including four guns during the operation.
Sinha said that policemen from Narayanpur, Kondagaon Dantewada and Jagdalpur and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) personnel were involved in this joint anti-Naxalite operation.
This encounter continued throughout the day and joint action was taken by police forces of four different districts.
Five hardcore Naxalites were killed on the spot in the counter attack by the security forces. All the five Naxalites killed were in uniform.
According to the police, the security forces had gone out for search operation in village Mungedi and Gobal area of Bastar division.
The encounter involved the forces of District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, Jagdalpur and 45th Battalion ITBP.
After the encounter in the forests of Gobal, the soldiers have intensified the search operation in the area.
Sources revealed that the killing of many more Naxalites is expected to be confirmed during the operation.
Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai and Narayanpur SP Prabhat Kumar are keeping an eye on the entire course of action.
The police have recovered the bodies of the killed Naxalites.
