Suryakumar Yadav returned to the playing XI of the Mumbai Indians squad as Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to field first in a day-night IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday.
Suryakumar comes in for Naman Dhir, and his inclusion could significantly strengthen Mumbai Indians' batting depth and influence their overall strategy and approach to the game.
Mumbai Indians also made two other changes to their lineup, with Romario Shepherd and Mohammad Nabi joining the squad in place of Kwena Mapakha, and Brevis, respectively.
"Three changes for us - Surya is back, he replaces Naman. Romario replaces Mapakha and Nabi is in, he replaces Brevis," MI Captain Hardik Pandya said at the toss.
Pandya expressed a preference for bowling first but stated that batting wouldn't be a problem either. He noted that the pitch appeared drier, affecting the ball's behavior.
Pandya highlighted the significance of securing a win for the team's morale and acknowledged the support of around 18,000 fans present at the stadium.
On the flipside, Pant expressed confidence in his team's ability to chase any target on the Wankhede pitch and stated the importance of unity among the players. He also acknowledged the inconsistency in the team's bowling department but remained optimistic about their performance.
