Arunachal assembly passes interim budget by voice vote

Itanagar, Feb 8  The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Interim Budget (Vote on Account) for the financial year 2024-25 by voice vote sans any debate.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Finance Chowna Mein while presenting the Vote on Account 2024-25 (for 4 months from April 1 to July 31, 2024) on the first day of the two-day Budget session, stated that he will make a statement on the interim Budget during the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address on Friday.
This being the election year and since this being the last session of the current 7th Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh, the term of which expiring on June 2, the Pema Khandu-led BJP Government presented the Vote on Account for the year 2024-25 to meet the regular Government expenses until the new government is formed after the elections.
The House also witnessed presentation, discussion and voting on Supplementary Demands for Grants for the FY 2023-24, and passing of the Arunachal Pradesh Appropriation (No. 1) Bill, 2024 and the Arunachal Pradesh Appropriation (Vote on Accounts No. 2) Bill, 2024.
The Assembly also saw the introduction of four important Bills by the Government on the opening day.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu introduced the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which was passed by the House following a brief discussion, paving the way for creation of two new districts - Keyi Panyor and Bichom - bifurcating the existing Lower Subansiri, and East Kameng & West Kameng districts, respectively.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tax & Excise, and Narcotics Chowna Mein introduced the Arunachal Pradesh Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Home Minister Bameng Felix moved the Arunachal Pradesh Lukayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2024, while Land Management Minister Nakap Nalo brought in the Arunachal Pradesh (Land Settlement and Records) (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Among other business, the House also saw Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte announcing the panel of chairmen comprising Goruk Pordung, Mutchu Mithi, Dasanglu Pul and Ninong Ering, for the current session.
