BJP corporator slain in Chhattisgarh

Kanker (Chhattisgarh), Jan 8   A ruling BJP corporator has been gunned down by hitherto-unidentified assailants in this restive district of Left-wing extremism-affected Bastar division, police said.
The Pakhanjur Nagar Panchayat’s erstwhile president Asim Rai was targeted late Sunday. A dispute is underway these days at the panchayat and voting is scheduled next Monday on a no-confidence motion against its President.
Last evening, Rai participated in a Viksit Bharat Sankalp camp at Pakhanjur. He returned home and then set out again. At about 2000 hrs, while he was riding a two-wheeler in the vicinity of Purana Bazaar, two persons on a motorbike approached him from the rear, the pillion rider shot Rai in the head and the duo absconded.
The victim was pronounced dead at the Civil Hospital.
