Constitution and democratic structure of country under serious threats : D Raja

Patna, Mar 22   National General Secretary of CPI D Raja on Friday said the constitution and democratic structure of the country are facing serious threats from the Narendra Modi government as the present regime is taking one draconian step after the other to suppress the voice of the people.
Raja told media persons here that the Narendra Modi government was hell-bent on demolishing the constitution and all democratic structures of the country. Freezing bank accounts of Congress and the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were the latest testimonies of the fact that how the present regime is anti-democratic in its behaviour and action, he pointed out.
" I strongly condemn the arrest of Kejriwal as it is a highly draconian, atrocious, and undemocratic step when Lok Sabha elections have been set in motion", the CPI leader said adding that Kejriwal had been pushed behind bars to stop him from campaigning in Lok Sabha elections. It was also an attempt to intimidate opposition parties but Narendra Modi's government would not succeed in its motive, he cautioned.
" Freezing bank accounts of Congress is a kind of financial terrorism to make the party crippled ", D Raja said adding that the people of the country would give a befitting reply to the Narendra Modi government in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
CPI leader said that the BJP would not succeed in making its presence felt in southern states despite the best attempts being made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP had been ousted from power in Karnataka while Tamil Nadu was a different state where there was no scope for the saffron party in ongoing Lok Sabha elections, he noted.
D Raja came down heavily on senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his statement that opposition parties should explain how it had received huge donations through electoral bonds, saying rather it was for him to explain how BJP was the number one party in receiving donations through electoral bonds. It was the BJP government which brought electoral bonds and he had opposed the move in parliament when related bill was presented by the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, he recalled.
CPI leader said that there was nothing wrong with his party fielding a candidate from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. It was a fight between Left Democratic Front (LDF) and United Democratic Front(UDF)
Kerala and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should have opted to contest from any other seat to avoid electoral battle between two parties of alliance INDIA, he stated.
Raja while responding to a query about seat sharing among constituents of Grand Alliance for Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, said it would be finalised soon. Former MLA and district secretary of Begusarai Awadhesh Kumar Rai would be the party candidate for Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency, he announced.
