Criminal involved in businessman's murder arrested in police encounter

Agra (UP), Apr 2 A criminal involved in murder of a businessman and looting at his residence was arrested in an encounter with the police in the Transport Nagar area of Agra district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, a police officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Suraj Rai said that on Tuesday morning, the police received information about a criminal involved in the murder of chemical businessman Dilip Gupta, a resident of Vijay Nagar colony, under the Hariparwat police station.
"Acting on the tip off the police team cordoned off the area and made an attempt to nab him, but he opened fire," he said.
He said that in retaliatory firing, the criminal, identified as Raju Kushwaha, an auto driver, sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was arrested. "The criminal has been admitted to SN Medical College, and his criminal history is being checked. He is being quizzed about his aides," he said.
Police sources said that Dilip Gupta, who ran a chemical business, had a firm named LDA in Rawatpara.
"On Monday afternoon, when Dilip and his wife Lata were alone at their residence, their servant Lokesh, along with his three aides, entered the house," they said.
Police sources said that Lokesh and his aides dragged Dilip to the basement of the house, where they tied his hands and legs and hit him with a heavy, blunt object.
"The miscreants also seriously injured Lata when she resisted the loot attempt. The couple was taken to the hospital, where Dilip was declared dead," they said.
Police sources said that the miscreants looted cash from the house and escaped with the booty.
