Govt positive about Maratha reservation: Min Mahajan

Jalna, Dec 22  The Maharashtra government has a positive attitude on the issue of giving reservation to the Maratha community and would do it in a way which ensures a lasting solution and fits within the framework of the law, a senior minister said on Friday.
State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Tourism Minister Girish Mahajan urged the agitating reservation activists to cooperate with the government.
"Government is positive to providing reservation. Cooperate to maintain law and order in the state. The work of tracing the Maratha Kunbi records through the committee headed by Justice (retd) Sandeep Shinde along with the district administration concerned is going on endlessly," said Mahajan.
He said certificates are being issued to those whose Kunbi records are found, and if there are any errors those would be rectified.
"Therefore, the Maratha agitators should cooperate with the government," he said.
A state government delegation met Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil at Antarwali Sarati in the district on Thursday night and informed him about the steps taken on the issue.
Industry Minister Uday Samant and EGS Minister Sandipan Bhumre, besides senior police and administrative officials were part of the delegation.
Mahajan said the protesters should have faith in the working of the government.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said in the just concluded assembly session in Nagpur that while providing reservation to the Maratha community no injustice would be done to other communities.
The Chief Minister also said a special session of the legislature would be convened in February next year if necessary after the State Backward Classes Commission submitted its report.
