Massive fire engulfs Shillong Bar Association building

The Shillong Bar Association building, one of the heritage houses here in Meghalaya, next to the District and Sessions Court, Shillong, was engulfed in a massive fire on Saturday night. No one was injured in the fire, police said.

Massive fire engulfs Shillong Bar Association building

Shillong, Feb 24  The Shillong Bar Association building, one of the heritage houses here in Meghalaya, next to the District and Sessions Court, Shillong, was engulfed in a massive fire on Saturday night.
No one was injured in the fire, police said.
The incident occurred at around 10 pm, according to the chowkidar.
“We don't yet know the exact cause of the fire. The firemen are battling with the fire,” Inspector General of Police (Fire and Emergency Services) Francis Kharshiing told UNI.
The Shillong Bar Association building, one of the oldest bars in the country, was established in 1913, and its centenary event was held in 2013.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Chief Secretary Donald Philips Wahlang, and senior government officials visited the fire and took stock of the situation.
“Took stock of the situation at the Shillong Bar Association office. It is a very unfortunate incident, but we are relieved that there is no casualty. The century old infrastructure is damaged. We will monitor the situation and ensure minimum damage,” Sangma posted on X.
