Punjab : Farmers stage protests on roadside & NH to observe 'Quit WTO Day'

Farmers, under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), staged protests on Monday by parking their tractors on the roadside at several locations including on the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway, to observe 'Quit WTO (World Trade Organisation) Day'.

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Feb 26  Farmers, under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), staged protests on Monday by parking their tractors on the roadside at several locations including on the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway, to observe 'Quit WTO (World Trade Organisation) Day'.
Their aim was to pressurise the Union government to accept their demands, which include seeking a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops, a loan waiver, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pensions for farmers and labourers, and withdrawal of police cases.
Farmers, led by the state president of the Doaba Kisan Committee (DKC), Jangveer Singh Chauhan, staged a protest by parking their tractors on either side of the road at Bijli Ghar Chowk, Tanda on Jalandhar-Jammu GT road.
Addressing the gathering, Chauhan criticized the policies of the WTO, stating that they are harmful to farmers.
Similarly, other groups of farmers, led by SKM member Harbans Sangha, Senior Vice President of the district unit of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rajewal) Gurajpal Singh, District President of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Qadian) Pavitar Singh Dhugga, District President of Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan Master Shingara Singh, and President of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Krantikari Society Ravinder Singh Kahlon, parked their tractors on the roadside at various locations to mark their protest.
These locations included Hoshiarpur-Phagwara Road, Nasrala-Taragarh Road, Dosarka-Fatehpur Road, Bullowal-Allowal Road, and Bhunga-Hariana Road.
