School Wiki showcases over 1 lakh creative writings by first graders in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 24  School Wiki, a collaborative online platform for schools in Kerala, is brimming with evidence of young minds blossoming.
This initiative captures the progress of first graders' language skills nurtured through creative activities like illustrated notebooks, essay competitions, and reading festivals.
Last month, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) launched "Kunjezhuthukal" (Creative writings by Kids) on School Wiki. This section preserves and documents the diaries, stories, picture stories, and experiences of these young learners.
In the first phase, one selected piece from each child is featured. Teachers curate the writings from children's notebooks and diaries, uploading them to School Wiki. Within a month, an impressive 1,01,062 creations are now accessible to the public on https:choolwiki.in/.
Kunjezhuthukal offers a unique window for the public to witness the benefits of language learning methods employed in Kerala schools. This marks the first time in India that the creative writings of first graders are being archived on such a scale.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, KITE devised a similar programme called Akshara Vriksham (Tree of Alphabets), where students from Classes 1 to 12 contributed 56,399 creative pieces to the School Wiki. These served as lasting memories of resilience during challenging times.
"KITE initiated this unique programme inspired by 146 first graders at SDV UPS, Neerkumnam, and Alappuzha, who independently wrote and published 146 story collections," said K.Anvar Sadath, CEO, KITE. "We will continue to facilitate uploads of children's writings until March 27th."
