Unprecedented Sankranti rush: TSRTC successfully operates record-breaking special buses

Hyderabad, Jan 14  The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) witnessed an overwhelming response from the public during the Sankranti festival, with 1861 special buses operating on a single day—an unprecedented feat.
Out of these, 1127 Hyderabad city buses were rerouted to high-passenger-traffic destinations such as Karimnagar, Warangal, Vijayawada, Khammam, and other routes.
In celebration of Sankranti, the corporation had initially planned 4484 special buses. Anticipating heavy passenger traffic, 4400 special buses were already in operation on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of this month. By Saturday, a remarkable total of 6261 special buses had been deployed. Despite the planned operation of 652 special buses on Sunday, 450 buses were redirected by the afternoon to accommodate the surge in passenger numbers.
On Saturday alone, the dedicated efforts of the TSRTC crew ensured the safe transportation of 52.78 lakh people to their respective destinations. Notably, more than half of the passengers were female, and all traveled to their hometowns at no cost, courtesy of the Mahalakshmi scheme. The organization's advanced planning and the coordinated efforts of its staff facilitated the peaceful transportation of passengers to their homes during the Sankranti festivities, with no reported incidents.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a command and control centre was established at Bus Bhavan to manage the operation. Special buses were strategically deployed according to the traffic conditions, ensuring efficient and hassle-free transport for the passengers.
The success of this operation would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the TSRTC staff and officials, who played a crucial role in ensuring a peaceful journey for people returning to their homes on Sankranti.
