Bihar Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar on Tuesday said the number of Self Helf Groups (SHGs) in the state is 10,47,000 covering 1.30 crore poor families.

Patna, Feb 27  Bihar Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar on Tuesday said the number of Self Helf Groups (SHGs) in the state is 10,47,000 covering 1.30 crore poor families.
Kumar, while replying to debate on third supplementary budget for the financial year 2023-24 in assembly said that state government was making all sort of efforts to improve the condition of poor families in Bihar.
Jeevika didis associated with SHGs were being given financial assistance to launch their own ventures for livelihood, he added.
"Number of SHGs in Bihar is 10,47,000 covering 1.30 crore families in the state," the Minister said adding that jeevika didis were now active in poor families in urban areas as well.
In government hospitals, patients and attendants were being served meals under the scheme didi ka rasoi, which was being appreciated by all, Kumar added.
He said that caste survey was conducted to find caste wise population and assess socio-economic condition of various sections of the society. A total of 94 lakh poor families had been identified during caste based survey who would be given financial assistance of Rs two lakhs each to launch their
ventures for livelihood, the Minister said.
Kumar said that poor families having no land would be given Rs one lakh each to purchase land. Caste survey was conducted to launch schemes for inclusive growth, he stressed.
Dissatisfied with reply of the Minister, the entire opposition staged a walkout from the house. Later, the third supplementary budget of Rural Development Department of Rs 77.97 crores for the financial year 2023-24 was passed by voice vote in the absence of opposition.
The Third supplementary budgetary demands of other departments for fiscal 2023-24 were also approved by the House.
Bihar Appropriation Bill 2024, presented by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, also holding the charge of finance department, was also passed by voice vote in the house.
