BJP got Rs 1,400 cr donation from gambling companies through electoral bonds, alleges Congress leader

Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Congress leader, Prithviraj Chavan, on Tuesday made a startling allegation that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has got Rs 1,400 crore as donation from gambling companies through electoral bonds.

Addressing party workers at party headquarter in Karad city of the district in support of Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate Shashikant Shinde, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to create two crore jobs every year, but in last 10 years there was no recruitment, instead bold advertisements on gambling started appearing in media to inculcate bad habit of gambling in the youth, he claimed. 

He said that during the Congress regime, advertisements of gambling, liquor, etc., were never encouraged, but now such advertisements are running in media because gambling companies have had donated Rs 1,400 crore to BJP through electoral bonds, he charged.

While levelling serious allegations against Modi, Chavan claimed that he was tacitly encouraging gambling industry with 'Chanda Do Dhanda Lo' (give donation take business).

Accusing Modi of trying to mislead people about Congress party's manifesto, he said that the party always strived to deliver on electoral promises made in the manifesto and there is no need for anyone to tell people what Congress had developed in last 60 years, he said in a jibe.

He further alleged that Modi had assured to bring back black money from foreign countries but supported black money holders and in this regard, referred to Amit Shah's own admission that it was only 'jumla' to deposit Rs 15 lakh into every citizen's bank accounts.

Since Modi has nothing to say about what he developed during his 10-year tenure, he is trying to cause divisions in society on basis of religion.

"Our country is heading towards dictatorship," the Congress leader added in a grim warning.
