Pune, India: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Member of Parliament Chirag Paswan demanded establishing a National Youth Commission to address several issues concerning the young population within the country. “The day is not far when we will see a ‘young parliament’ in our country if the youth participate in politics at the ground level,” Paswan stated while addressing college students at a session on “Youth Leadership in Politics – Rhetoric or Reality” during the 13th edition of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad organised by MIT School of Government (MIT-SOG) and MIT World Peace University (MIT WPU) in Pune.
Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan, MLC (Graduates Nashik) Satyajeet Sudhir Tambe, BJP National Spokesperson and MITSOG Alumni Shehzad Poonawalla; and MIT WPU Executive President and MIT SOG Founder Rahul V. Karad and other dignitaries were present for the session. Tambe was conferred upon with Aadarsh Yuva Vidhayak Samman (Ideal Youth MLA Honour) for his outstanding performance in development work and promotion of parliamentary democracy. Four Sarpanch – Yashodhararaje Shinde (Vaddi village, Miraj, Maharashtra), Rajbalwinder Singh (Sahungra Village, Balachaur Punjab), Priyanka Tiwari (Rajpur Gram Panchayat, Hathras, Uttar Pradesh), and Neeru Yadav (Village Lambi Ahir, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan) were conferred with “Uccha Shikshit Aadarsh Yuva Sarpanch Samman” at the hands of dignitaries.
Paswan further said, “I was not a nepo-kid who wanted to be in politics, but while I was pursuing career in other domains, it made me realise that it is important to enter politics. There is a tendency to criticise politics or politicians but we need to think differently and break this false notion. Bihar has long been the centre of politics in India with politics revolving around caste, religion, and sectarian politics. If we want to become a developed nation, then we must change our mindset and bring every citizen into the national mainstream. I am concerned about young individuals who keep away or are disconnected from politics but criticise politics. Youth should utilise their energy and passion to take the country in the right direction.”
Prithviraj Chavan said, “If we want to become multitrillion dollar economy, then youth will have to contribute in all sectors. A single vote by the young population will decide in which direction the country will be headed in the future. Even though we have become the fifth largest economy in the world, we are still at 140th place in terms of per capita income as compared to other nations. Youth should participate in public policy if they do not want to be a part of direct elective politics.”
Tambe said, “Democracy will be strengthened if we bring about political literacy in the country. Every young individual of this country should have his own view and stand on different issues. Ideological battles should be fought with ideologies and for that youth should participate in politics on a large scale.”
Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Youth should act as agent of change and witness the power of their vote and also see for themselves how it will steer the country on the path of development.”
Student leaders Shubhankar Panditrao (Gujarat), Ayesha Mehboob Ulde (Maharashtra), Bomito Kinimi (Nagaland), Prajakta Bhange (Maharashtra), Yash Varandal (Maharashtra) delivered inspirational speech. Hearfulness Trainer Anjali Bapat performed Heartfulness Rajyoga Meditation at the beginning of the session. Dr Gautam Bapat compered the function.
