Pune: Former Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu advised legislators to oppose adversaries in politics and prevent the government from engaging in wrongful activities. He emphasized the need for legislators to maintain loyalty to their respective political parties while working for the welfare of the nation. Speaking at the inauguration of the National Legislators Conference, attended by 200 legislators, organized by the M.I.T. School of Government and MIT World Peace University, Naidu stressed the importance of stability in political affiliations to preserve the interest of citizens in the democratic process.
The conference witnessed the presence of prominent figures such as business consultant and author Ram Charan, Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, and Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Executive Director of MIT WPU. Around 200 members from legislative assemblies and councils participated in the conference, representing all political parties and 25 states. Legislators from the BJP, Congress, DMK, AITC, RJD, SP, Shiv Sena, and NCP were among the attendees.
Naidu urged legislators to maintain a positive mindset and engage in discussions, debates, and decision-making with voters on issues that concern them. He cautioned against frequent party-switching by legislators, emphasizing the negative impact on civic engagement and the democratic process.
Naidu urged legislators to be exemplary figures for the people, emphasizing that their actions should not hinder parliamentary proceedings. He highlighted the myriad opportunities and challenges in the country, calling for collective efforts towards development. Stressing the unity of the nation despite diverse political affiliations, he called for responsible media coverage that focuses on constructive rather than distracting news.
Satish Mahana emphasized the importance of understanding the dignity of democracy and encouraged collaboration among politicians for the nation's development.
Rahul Karad advocated for educated youth to enter politics, receiving training alongside their academic pursuits. He drew a comparison with the two-party system in the United States and urged India to overcome the challenges hindering the progress of democracy.
