Kamathipura women vow to vote in LS polls

Women prostitutes in Kamathipura, Mumbai, have resolved to go all out and vote 100 percent on May 20.

In a bid to improve voting percentage, Collector and District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav took up a special campaign across the city on Tuesday, when the sex workers of famed Kamathipura area vowed in large numbers to exercise their right in the upcoming Lok Sabha election phase five. 

According to the official press statement issued on Wednesday, Farog Mukadam, Chief Co-ordinating Officer of "SVEEP"; Abhijit Bhande-Patil, Assistant Election Decision Officer of Mumba Devi Assembly Constituency; Deepali Masirkar, Director of Central Election Commission; and CEO of Apne Aap NGO Manju Vyas were part of the awareness program among others.

Deepali Masirkar said, "A large number of voters participated in voter awareness campaign organized in connection with the Lok Sabha General Election-2024."

Mukadam convinced the women of the importance of exercising their right to vote and the difference it can make. "Voting is your right. Vote yourself and encourage women in your area to vote. Everyone's opinion is important and it is our right," she told the women of Kamathipura.
