LS Polls: Nomination process begins for Meghalaya

Shillong, Mar 20  Filing of nominations for the Shillong and Tura parliamentary constituencies in Meghalaya has begun on Wednesday.
However, no candidate has filed their nominations on the first day in the state, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari said.
Elections in Meghalaya would be held in a single phase. The first phase of polling is scheduled for April 19, with nominations being accepted until March 27, the Election Commission of India’s notification said.
Tura Lok Sabha constituency in the western part of Meghalaya consists of 24 Assembly segments in the entire Garo hills, while Shillong Parliamentary constituency is spread over 36 Assembly segments, covering Khasi-Jaintia hills.
This comes after the Election Commission of India issued a Gazette notification for 102 Parliamentary Constituencies across 21 States and Union Territories that go for polls in the General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024.
The States and Union Territories that go into the poll in the first phase are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
The scrutiny of nominations would be held on March 28, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 30. The date of counting is June 4.
