VPP rubbishes NPP’s allegation

Shillong, Apr 9  The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Tuesday termed the allegations made by National People’s Party (NPP) leader Pyniaid Sing Syiem that VPP creating disturbances during the NPP election meeting as ‘baseless’ and ‘unfounded’.
In a complaint lodged before Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. B.D.R Tiwari, Danny Langstieh, the Election Agent of VPP, said Syiem, who is also the Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, alleged that the VPP had caused law and order situation during the NPP meetings.
“These allegations were made by him on the 6th and 8th of April 2024 while campaigning for his Party at Rynjah, East Khasi Hills district, and Umsning, Ribhoi district,” Langstieh said.
Urging the Chief Electoral Officer to take necessary actions as per rules against Syiem, the VPP also complained about the high-handedness and physical abuse made by the people present in the NPP meeting against the ordinary citizens for mere sloganeering on the symbol of the VPP.
On Monday evening, some people raised the slogan "Ha U Prah" (vote for winnower) at a rally of the NPP at Umsning market.
In another complaint lodged before the Chief Electoral Officer, the VPP expressing serious concern, said according to information received by its party workers, attempts would be made to disrupt free and fair polls in Jaintia Hills by anti-social elements.
“There is a likelihood that proxy voting may take place if the polling officials aren’t vigilant,” Langstieh said in his complaint while urging Tiwari to take necessary steps to ensure free and fair polls.
