Mizoram records two Dengue deaths in 2023

Aizawl, Dec 17 At least 2 people diedwhile 1,939 people were infected with the Dengue virus in 2023 in Mizoram, according to the officials.
The state Health and Family Welfare offcials said state vector borne disease control programme (SVDCP).
The officials said that 12,215 samples, suspected of being infected with Dengue have been tested of which 1,939 samples tested positive. The infection rate from samples tested was 15.87 per cent as compared to last year’s 37.57 per cent.
Of 5,257 samples tested during last year, 1,868 people were identified as infected with Dengue. Five people died due to Dengue infections during 2022.
The Dengue endemic reached a low point during 2020 and 2021, most probably due to Covid-19 pandemic hiatus, SVDCP officials said, adding that last year witnessed immense increase in Dengue cases while surge in detected cases increase during this year.
The officials said that the total 7 fatalities in the state were mainly due to being infected with Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) while those having classical Dengue fever did not die of the infections.
