Mumbai: 2 labourers killed, one injured after failing into drain

Two contract labourers died and one was seriously injured after falling into the chamber of a 15-foot-deep underground sewer in the northern Mumbai suburb of Malad on Thursday, a civic official said. According to fire bridge sources, the incident took place at 5:30 p.m. at Malvani gate number 8 on Abdul Hameed Road in Ambujwadi.

Mumbai, Mar 21  Two contract labourers died and one was seriously injured after falling into the chamber of a 15-foot-deep underground sewer in the northern Mumbai suburb of Malad on Thursday, a civic official said.
According to fire bridge sources, the incident took place at 5:30 p.m. at Malvani gate number 8 on Abdul Hameed Road in Ambujwadi.
"Three people fell into the chamber of an underground drain sewer, which is 15 feet below a public toilet maintained by a contractor. They were taken out by passersby and rushed to a nearby hospital, where one person was declared dead on arrival," an official said.
The deceased have been identified as Suraj Kevat and Bikas Kevat (20), while the condition of Ramlagan Kevat (45) is critical, an official added.
The local Malvani police station has registered an accidental death report based on preliminary information and probing further," said senior inspector Chimaji Adhav.
