Repolling held in Indiganatha polling station in Chamrajnagar LS constituency

Repolling was conducted peacefully at a polling station in Indiganatha village of Hanur, within the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka.

The rerun of voting took place, on Monday, amid elaborate security arrangements after a clash between groups on Friday resulted in the damaging of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The polling commenced at 7 am and concluded by 6 pm.

The Election Commission ordered the repolling following reports of EVM damage during a clash at the polling booth in Indiganatha village on April 26. The incident occurred as two groups clashed over whether to participate in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the district administration, villagers initially decided to boycott the polls, citing inadequate infrastructure development. However, after assurances and efforts by local officials, polling resumed.

Preliminary information suggests that one group was in favor of voting while the other advocated for a boycott, leading to clashes during which EVMs were damaged, and stone-pelting occurred, officials reported.

In a letter addressed to the Karnataka chief electoral officer, the EC stated that based on reports submitted by the returning officer and general observer for the Chamrajnagar constituency, and after considering all material circumstances, it declared the polling held at polling station number 146 under the Hanur assembly constituency on Friday as void.
