Mother, son get 2 years imprisonment for drug possession

Kaithal, Dec 23  A court here has sentenced a woman and her son to two years imprisonment for possession of smack.
Public prosecutor told the court that the Guhla police station had registered a case against the duo on November 8, 2020.
He further said that the complainant senior inspector Joginder Singh of Guhla police station along with his team had reached village Kharkan in front of the school while patrolling and a person informed him that one Ravi, a resident of Kharkan, was selling smack at his house.
On this, SI Singh prepared a raiding party and went to Ravi's house along with his team members.
Seeing the police party, a young man and a woman started running towards the back of house from the empty courtyard next to the house. However, police caught him in the courtyard of the house itself.
When asked their names, the young man told his name as Ravi, resident of Kharkan, and the woman told her name as Kharka, resident of Biro Devi. However, they turned out to be mother and son.
Police recovered 13 grams 140 mg smack from Ravi and 10 grams 620 mg smack from Biro.
Following which, police arrested them and registered a case under the NDPS
(Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act against them.
Police prepared a charge-sheet against the mother-son duo and submitted it to the court.
After listening to both the parties carefully, Additional District Judge (ADJ) Sangeeta Rai Sachdev found the mother-son duo guilty and sentenced them to two years imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 to each, it was stated.
